2007-9. War Art
Australian Official Artists, Australian War Memorial (Deployment in Iraq and Afghanistan). In 2007, we were appointed Australian Official War Artists. We were deployed for six weeks in combat zones and remote military bases (both Australian and U.S. bases) across Iraq, the Gulf and Afghanistan, later finishing a 33-painting commission and a series of mural-size photographs documenting those wars for the Australian War Memorial.
The resulting large exhibition, “Framing Conflict: Lyndell Brown and Charles Green”, opened first at the Ian Potter Museum of Art, University of Melbourne (2008), and toured to many major public art galleries around Australia, culminating at the Australian War Memorial, opening there in 2010. Framing Conflict travelled to the art gallery of the Australian Embassy in Washington DC.
